 RESEARCH INTERESTS

Current project: Politics of Loneliness – Problems of Recognition

My second book project (Habilitation), Politics of Loneliness – Problems of Recognition, is situated at the intersection of literary and film studies, gender studies, history of emotions, psychoanalysis, and political philosophy.

Therein, I analyse poetics and cultural representations that problematize loneliness as an individual and collective phenomenon that arises from a disturbed process of (self- )recognition. My research underlines the post-colonial critique of recognition by Latin American philosophers, such as Adolfo Sánchez Vázquez and Bolívar Echeverría, against the backdrop of the traditional European and US-American discussion (Axel Honneth, Nancy Fraser, Jessica Benjamin).

The project focuses mainly on Argentine and Mexican literary and filmic representation of the 20th century.

Research areas

  • aesthetics, cultural theory, image theory, political philosophy, psychoanalysis, theories of translation
  • world literature, processes of (literary and cultural) translation, globalization and transnationalism, discourses of the Anthropocene, cosmopolitanism
  • 19th and 20th century literature especially from Argentina, Germany, France and Mexico, photography around 1850, silent film
